it's about time to make a conclusion for my lampeyes this year.
-------Congopanchax-----
first is C. brichardi of course. there were two import of brichardi during this April to May. one for HK and one for inland. I got 24 individuals at mid May and they started breeding before June. thanks to John's experience, I can raise those fry. during this summer and autumn, several hundred fry were raised to adult size, and countless egg were produced of course.
I found brichardi is fast growing(at least mine), with breeding start at about 10th week in my observation.
I also found an interesting yellow-grey fin male from those 24 individuals and he stuck to the end and produced several dozens of egg. there will be a batch of yellow fin individuals next spring if there are no accidents.
I found my brichardi are quite big, with mature males reach 2.6cm in wild individuals and 2.9cm in F1 as shown in the picture. but it is Undoubtble that these big males are more or less old and much more fragile than younger at 1.5~2cm.
variations of fin shape and color were observed as many other breeder had done. long sharp pelvic fin (all yellow or all orange-red are both observed) give better visual experience when considering sparring and courtship. so that would be my selection direction if possible.
To my surprise, 3 albino brichardi fry were found in F2, but they were all very weak and I failed to raise them. those 3 are the only albino I found until now (and probably forever).
------Poropanchax---luxophthalmus---
I gave up raising P. luxophthalmus fry in this summer for their relative long incubation period at room temperature and strange sex ratio with more female than male in my attempt.
I found lux is a slow growing species if not kept in large tank/tub. the best way/set I can say is put many fry with some bottom feeder such as young Dario spp. and let them grow up together.
---scheeli---
I failed to get scheeli this summer. there were one import of wild scheeli in HK - Miaogu
